What’s not to love about Fairfax? Fiercely local, quirky, and laid-back, this town is Marin all the way. Farm-to-table restaurants, loads of green, and even a couple of nightclubs anchor the thriving downtown, where you can take in some live music or a movie at the Fairfax Theater.

Home to the Mountain Biking Hall of Fame, Fairfax is known for its outdoor lifestyle, as well as its counterculture feel. Mild temperatures and lots of suns keep residents outside most of the time. Not only are you close to Point Reyes National Seashore and miles of incredible Northern California beaches, but being so close to Mount Tamalpais makes it easy to get on the trail. Cascade Falls, a local favorite, is a 1.2-mile jaunt from the trailhead to a 20-foot waterfall. For more of a challenge, head to Cataract Falls or Deer Park. And if you’re looking to get out of town, a short, scenic drive takes you to Lake Lagunitas.

Back in town, you’ll find world-class schools, an organic grocery, breweries, and even O’Donnell’s Fairfax Nursery, responsible for habitat restoration throughout Marin. But perhaps the best thing about Fairfax is the people. This town is truly special, but you won’t know just how special until you live here.
