Situated in south-central San Francisco, Sunnyside is a mid-sized community that feels more suburban than urban and is ideal for putting down roots. Although it leans toward the quiet side, Sunnyside’s two BART stations, the J-Church light rail, and the I-280 offer easy access to livelier neighborhoods, including downtown and The Mission.

Despite its moniker, Sunnyside isn’t very sunny, but nearby Glen Park and Mt. Davidson help make up for it with their hiking trails and fabulous city views. Its resident City College of San Francisco infuses Sunnyside with a youthful buzz, and Monterey Boulevard forms the neighborhood’s commercial core with its shopping and dining options.

Of course, you’ll find quintessential Victorian properties here, but the craft- and art-deco homes built in the earlier part of the 20th century dominate much of the area’s landscape. Its many single-family homes contribute to Sunnyside’s suburban feel and family appeal, and it’s one of the more affordable parts of the city. If a relaxed environment is more your speed, then Sunnyside may be just the place to catch your breath.
